Summer is Slowly Fading...
But that doesn't mean we stop serving sundaes, shakes, phosphates, and more! As the days start to shorten and cool down, you may find a shift in our open hours, but right now we're still here for lunch and available for your after dinner desserts! Come enjoy chicken salad and Polly's Pop, maybe a banana split after!
We always love sharing a bit of Independence history with everyone, whether you were already a local or visiting from out of town. Come see us again while the weather is still hot for a tasty, cold treat. And maybe for some cocoa when things start to get chilly...

About us
While Clinton’s Soda Fountain has been in business since 1988, our building on Independence Square dates back to the 1800s. Step into Clinton’s Soda Fountain, sit at the marble bar, and experience a moment in history. Decades ago, young Harry Truman worked at a pharmacy and soda fountain at this very location on Independence Square. People from every state in the U.S. of A. have come to visit Clinton’s Soda Fountain's old-fashioned fountain, order a sundae or phosphate, and relax after a day of sightseeing and shopping. Whether you order Harry’s Favorite (a butterscotch sundae with chocolate ice cream) or pick your own pleasure, Clinton’s is a must-stop destination.
Over the years, it housed a shoe store, jewelry shop, pharmacy, and soda fountain. Today, the charm and tradition of the old-fashioned soda fountain continues right down to the checkerboard floor. Take a peek at the 100-year-old marble countertop and wooden backdrop that were originally used at another soda fountain in Kansas. Clinton’s serves classic soda phosphates with flavored syrups, ice cream, and other treats for your sweet tooth. Throughout the room, historic photographs depict scenes from yesteryear. Cool off after a promenade around the square and see the location where hardworking Harry got started at his first job before taking on the biggest job in the land. |
